Bushbuckridge- The Mpumalanga the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs is on a mission to assist communities to eradicate poverty and create sustainable incomes.
On the 30th of November, the Department’s Recapitalization and Development programme was delivering farming equipment to 4 communities in Bushbuckridge where farming communities were selected for the 1 household 1 hector programme.

According to the department’s director Tinyiko Mahori, Each of the 4 projects received a tractor, and other farming equipment worth R2 084 200,00
“The donation will assist the projects in becoming better productive farmers. We are assisting farming projects because get off the ground. This time around we have managed to help four projects but we are working on broadening about it.
One of the lucky projects is Timvuvini  in Goromani village consisting of 31 households and currently producing maize and vegetables.
“The projects are a source of income for the project members,” said Mahori.
Another project that got the big donation is Mantangaleni Primary Cooperative in Jim Brown currently holding 28 households according to Mahori. This team produces maize, ground nuts and hugo beans,” said the director.

Mahori said that the Dumphries Irrigation Scheme is currently cultivating grains and vegetables.
“The project has 60 hectors that they could not use due to the lack of equipment. We are glad that the new equipment will assist them in being able to use all the land and provide employment to the youth in the area.
Silandana Matsiyana Agricultural cooperative project based in Lilydale will produce maize, ground nuts, cow peas and Hugo beans to sell to the local markets with the help of the new tractor.
