Love Life and the I'm partnership with the department of Sports and Recreational hosted the annual National Recreation Day in Acornhoek Y-Centre, Bushbuckridge, to enhance and encourage active lifestyle.

The purpose of the annual event is to tackle issues pertaining to non-communicable diseases such as obesity, hypertension, cardiac diseases and many others.

"We know that some diseases result as a lack of exercise, the government then came up with a plan to involve all South Africans in recreational activities for them to participate”, said Sipho Fakude, the Active Lifestyle coordinator.

There were games such as 5-stars soccer, volleyball, netball, skipping rope, sack racing, tug of war and other activities under the hashtag choose2BeActive.

"I participated in a lot of exercises and I feel like I have lost a few of kilos already, we really need more of these activities and many more in our community. This is great to inform people and to be taught how we should take care of ourselves, and this should be an everyday thing, one needs to exercise every day and not to wait for such events to be reminded especially now that it is hot”, said one of the participant, Shereen Mpangane.

Tswarelo Shakoane, the main ground-breaker said that they are so glad that they managed to build up friendship amongst people from different communities and they also managed to accommodate everyone and those who could not afford at the centre. He added that the main objective of the day was to have fun while exercising and he is pleased that they have achieved that.
